Lawless, by Tracey Ward

Lawson Daniel is good at a lot of things. He can show you the best places to surf, the perfect time of day to ride the tide. He knows the best bars, the best bands, he has the best weed, and if you’re looking to get laid, he’ll show you the best time.

No girl in her right mind should speak to him. She definitely shouldn’t have sex with him, and only a blind, self-loathing idiot would fall in love with him.

I’ve done all three.

All in the span of one sweltering, suffering summer that nearly cost me everything down to the blood in my body and the beat of my heart.

No one walked away from that season unscathed.

Not even Lawson Daniel.

*New Adult Romance intended for audiences 18 and older.

3.5 stars
By Nmmomof4
Overall Opinion: This was a cute, easy read. After reading the synopsis I expected a little more angst, but it was kinda a fluffy read. I rate it at 3.5 because it's better than "just ok", but not by much. The characters were cute and the premise was interesting, but this book might end up being forgotten with time--not all that memorable.

Storyline: This is Rachel and Lawson's story. They both grew up in the same town with each other, but had always been just acquaintances. Right before Rachel is going to leave CA to go to Boston for college (she's wants to become a concert pianist) at NEC, Rachel goes to the beach with her best friend. While there she gets in the water and ends up being attacked by a shark! Luckily the town's celebrity surfer, Lawson, happened to be in the water at the same time and saved her. After her attack, she ends up staying for the summer and is constantly bumping into Lawson. They finally connect and end up falling in love. With some self identity struggles as well as family struggles, the couple is separated. But in the end they are reunited and find their HFN.

POV: Rachel's POV

Overall Pace of Story: Fast. This was a really quick, easy read...but it didn't feel rushed to me.

H rating: 4 stars. Lawson. He was labeled as trouble in their small town, but seemed to be just a lonely, misunderstood guy. I liked how he pushed Rachel to confront her fears.

h rating: 3 stars. Rachel. Just ok...nothing really to tip the scales to put her into like or dislike status

Angst level: Low. Much lower than I expected...no tissues required

Heat level: Low. I wouldn't necessarily say they are fade to black, but they are more about the emotional vs. the physical.

Descriptive sex: Not really (see above)

Closure: This was not enough closure for me. I don't feel secure in their relationship, as it would have been nice to have a more solid commitment for the couple. There were still some questions I wanted answered.

A Shark Attack, 2 Real People and a Summer Romance = My New Favorite Book
By Becky Petzold
This book only just released at midnight and I was so entranced by it that I simply couldn't put it down....not even for a bathroom break. The very first chapter grabs you with its teeth and will not let you go, especially since a shark takes a bite into our main gal pal Rachel in that same first chapter. That is where trouble walks into the picture. Lawson Daniels. Whom everyone refers to by his full name as he is the very type of trouble your daddy brings out the guns for. Heartbreakingly gorgeous, he charms everyone but keeps his real self hidden, letting very few people in. He saves our dear Rachel by getting her free and to shore then staying with her until that paramedics arrive. He promised her that he'd stay, and that's when their bond starts to form. He even tells her that doesn't want to be thanked for doing what he feels what any decent person would've done in his shoes. That says a lot about the character and made me fall in love with himself just a little myself (damn you fictional boys!). Rachael is now stranded in Cali, having missed her plane to Boston for a summer job before she started at a music school in the fall. She is stuck on crutches and needs a job so that she can buy another plane ticket for the fall. Meanwhile Lawson helps by not only finding her a job that works with her injury, but drives her there himself ever day. This is the plot device used to get them to spend more time together and the author uses it to its full potential. Never feeling contrived or forced, it helps push the story to its next point in their love story. I won't reveal anymore of the story but it's a wonderfully told about two young people that are trying to find their place in the world while falling in love over summer break. Both characters are fleshed out realistically with understandable flaws that anyone can releate to, not feeling good enough, struggling to handle family responsibilities and expectations verus personal wants and freedom, etc. I read this book in a matter of hours and am already wondering how soon I can go back to rereading it without seeming too obsessed about this story. If you are looking for a realistic romance that makes you fall a bit in love with the characters, especially the male lead, as well as the author that created it, then this is the perfect summer romance to help pass the hot days and nights.

This is such a funny and sweet story
By Joycedale
This is such a funny and sweet story. I love when they've always thought of someone as one way and they turn out to be completely different.
Rachel and Lawson have known each other their whole lives and even run in the same circle but haven't even spoken a handful of times. But then Lawson saves her and suddenly she can't get rid of him. Rachel decides to just go with it and enjoy his friendship until she leaves for the east coast for school but life never turns out how you want it too.
I loved Rachel and Lawson. They were just too cute and their conversations alone are worth getting this book. I laughed so much and even when I wasn't physically laughing the hubby says I was making faces lol.
I really enjoyed the side characters too and wouldn't be against Katy getting a book *hint hint*.

I was given an eArc by the author and this is my honest review.
